Buy Beats or Free Instrumentals?

As an artist, one may feel that they don't need to buy beats for various reasons.

Here are some of the ones I've heard before:

· "Not selling my mix-tape, why buy beats?"

· "I have an in-house producer."

· "Producers should give FREE BEATS! "

· "Those beats cost too much!"

If you're an artist, Especially an Underground or "Underdog" Artist, there is one harsh truth that you simply MUST come to terms with … NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR YOU ON LIL WAYNE'S BEAT.

Now I know what you're thinking. "Lil Wayne uses other People's beats all the time …" That's because, well, he's Lil Wayne & he's one of the special cases of people who can do that. I mean come on, let's be honest, name another artist who you would listen to rap over someone ELSES beat besides Wayne, Fab maybe , but that's about it.

Some people can, most people can't, I don't know why but that's how it goes. You have a much increased chance of grabbing & most importantly, KEEPING your listener's attention with COMPLETELY ORIGINAL work. Even if you aren't selling your body of work, it's still important to gain the attention of your listeners & "Potential Fans."

In-house producers or beat makers are a valuable tool for any artists to have. They provide a wide range of significant benefits. However, one can become to reliant on in-house producers & become stuck in a rut. Not necessarily saying they're creating bad music, but the excitement is gone because of a sort of "recycled sound." This issue can be resolved by simply, connecting with new producers. Even if you're not working directly with them, sometimes a new ear & perspective will send your imagination to great lengths.

In regards to free beats, I'll keep it short and simple. If you can't find a producer to give you a free beat, you're not looking hard enough. There are tons of producers willing to give beats away in order to establish new clients. Are you being a beggar & chooser?

Most producers give away free beats to people in order to gain interest from those people. Artists (most of which are not serious enough to invest in themselves) feel that those free beats should be fully customized & tailored to their specific needs …

You pay for Free … You Get Free Quality, Simple . This does not mean however, that you should give up your arm, lung & leg for a beat either. The price for lease licenses online range from anywhere between $ 15- $ 30 dollars with the average being around $ 20, Expect to spend that if you're looking for some quality production.
